Marked for Destruction

This road sign is marked for destruction. Why?

The posts are completely rusted out and are unable to support the sign.

Ryan Road has been relocated.

Some wealthy lotto winner is supplying a free replacement.

There is a surplus in road maintenance funds that must be spent.

The orange stripes are really only "Graffiti" to make all feel welcome!

See, now we can't afford a tax cut after all!

Ryan Road has been renamed.

Some people might not know what "RD" represents.

Government workers need something to do between breaks.

No sign should be visible from the road to be in conformance with Sterling Heights standards.

The Official Line so far:

The sign in question is an advance ID sign for Ryan Road located on 14 Mile Road on the north side approaching Ryan Road heading west. The sign is on a county road, under the jurisdiction of the Macomb County Road Commission (MCRC), not the City of Sterling Heights.

Staff contacted Dale McDermit from the Macomb County  Road Commission. Mr. McDermit,  a sign    shop employee, indicated that they are updating all the signs on 14 Mile Road from Hayes to Dequindre Roads.

This project includes the Ryan Road advance ID sign. The new sign will be larger going from 12"x42" to 18"x60" with hi-intensity reflective sheeting for greater night visibility. Also, the old painted steel posts will be replaced with galvanized steel posts.

Mr. McDermit is using the same standards that the State uses. For additional information he may be contacted at his office at tel. # (810) 791-3222.

Sincerely,

Guy Kebbe
Public Works Director
